Have an Overly-Informed Halloween

I was unable to publish this when I drafted it, so I present it for Halloween, 2024, along with a handful of... cheerier links to celebrate the season. It's not all horror flicks and jump scares, after all. An entire knife will fit into a Snickers bar... that's... that's just trivia. Happy Halloween!

We relish our standing as an outlet for the weird and unexplained, and take our duties (probably too) seriously -- especially when it comes to informing others who, these days, are likely to have been misinformed.  Our rambling rants on all things suppressed notwithstanding, we truly enjoy researching and learning things about which we, too, have usually been misinformed.

We've found that nothing is more frightening than the truth, and that is why, this Halloween (2019), we have decided to bring you a rundown of facts that are likely to terrify you into becoming a doomsday prepper and government-labeled "likely terrorist."

Thanks for being on our list and have a Happy Halloween!

Haunted House Hanger Doing Better

A 17-year old haunted house worker in the St. Louis area may have slipped from a tub and fallen into a noose. She was found hanging by a maintenance worker. Although the worker was not breathing at the time she was found, but was quickly revived and is now recovering in the hospital. She was listed as no longer in critical care at the time of this writing.

Happy Halloween

I hope everyone had a great Halloween holiday. I suppose it's a kid's holiday in America and more fitting when it falls on a weekend, but I thought it cool that it fell on a Monday. I know hardly anyone got to take off work for it, but it definitely made it feel like a three-day weekend and I hope everyone got the most out of it.

This is a sketchy week, as I have a lot of decorations to take down and first of the month routines (bills, shopping, etc.) that befall a country home. I don't know what to tell you about it, though I can say I'll be here off and on at some point.

31 Days of Horror

Yes, 31 Days of Horror movie reviews will be back this year at The Rundown. I know things got hinky last year, but that wasn't entirely my fault and I've started early this year, so I'm hoping for the best.

Anyway, that's one fresh review of a probably rotten horror movie every day in October, leading up to Halloween on The Rundown, starting October 1st. There will be a decent mix of cult-favorite B-raters, mainstream horror fare, classics, and the like, so be sure to check it out.

Halloween Horror Movie Reviews

I forgot to tell you guys: I am reviewing (well, trying to) 31 horror flicks for October over to Rated-B. Of course, I've had a few setbacks, but I can still feasibly pull this thing off, and I'm going to do my best to do exactly that, so if you dig horror flicks, please check it out.

This link is for all the Reviews on the site, but the first 31 will be the horror movies. Unless you read this months after Halloween, in which case, you're on your own! (Still working on that pesky navigation thing...)

Halloween Updates

Obviously, we're all over the map here - the paranormal, Cyberculture, comic books - but the primary thrust of The Weirding remains the RPG content. And this Halloween, we've got a doozy for you: the long-awaited Chill @ The Weirding has been unleashed!

Technically, I got sick a week before Halloween and ran out of time - in many cases, the pages are not only incomplete, but the design elements are all effed-up. I apologize, but what can I do? I'll continue tweaking, updating, and uploading what I didn't get posted on Halloween. Still, this is the biggest release yet, and (as always) it's just a drop in the bucket; there's much, much, much more to come but you'll just have to make-do with what I managed to get published for now.

Chill is a horror RPG centering on envoys from a highly-secret, Supernatural investigation agency called the Society of the White Way. A classic horror RPG, Chill remains an underground staple amongst the cognoscenti. A third-edition was recently set to be released (from OtherWorld Creations), but unfortunately, has so far fallen-through. Fans of The OddBlog would enjoy it, so be sure to check it out!

The Weirding is an official Chill site.

Meth + Gun + Hallowe'en = Murder

According to South Carolina authorities, a 22-year old, convicted felon has been arrested and charged with murder and assault and battery with intent to kill after firing on a family of trick-or-treaters.

12-year old T.J. Darrisaw, his brother, and father, were all shot when 22-year old Quentin Patrick fired over 30 rounds at them from inside his house Hallowe'en night after they approached his door. The father and brother were treated and released, but T.J. died from his wounds Friday night. Patrick told authorities he had been robbed and shot in the past, which is why he unloaded his assault rifle on the innocent family of trick-or-treaters.

The family had been at a Hallowe'en party and stopped at the home because the light was on.

Our sincerest condolences go to the family and friends.

Back Again

Okay guys, I am actually back and things will start getting back on their regular schedule this week.

As you know, I had to slow down for a while across the boards while I worked on the website. I had a slew of content to release this Halloween and I did exactly that! There is still much more to come, but now that I am somewhat caught-up, I can begin releasing it as I finish it. This means you will need to keep checking back, though I will make announcements as I publish major departments and the like.

I hope you enjoyed your Halloween holiday - I know I did (even if I did have to work the entire time). I have several doctors' appointments coming up, as well as at least one more surgery. Add this to the upcoming holidays, and you can surmise that things will be slow here and there, but by and large, we're back on-track.

The History of Halloween

Yes, today is the day! Not only do you get free candy from your neighbors (and possibly some free toilet paper from their unruly teenage kids), you get a slew of new material from The Weirding!

When we were growing up, it was the best day of the year next to Christmas! There were fantastic TV specials and neighborhoods filled with little ghosts, goblins, and princesses, bustling from door to door with their plastic pumpkins in tow. The days that followed found everyone beside a horde of candy, deep in talks of trade.

But Halloween has been dealt some serious damage in recent years, thanks largely to media scare tactics and religious zealots. So, in the interest of getting to the bottom of the whole thing, The OddBlog decided to take a spin around the ol' InterWeb and see what we could dig up on this ancient holiday:

And so, that's about as much digging as we needed to do - no sense rehashing the same, right? As well, you might like to check out the festivities we've been throwing over to The Rundown all day long - video after video of horrific goodies I toiled to turn-up on the ol' YouTube. And, last but nowhere near least, today is the big unveiling of a cornucopia of content over to The Weirding.

Happy Hallowe'en, y'all!

Animal Masks

Halloween may well be over, but that doesn't mean you can't still have fun with costumes. Kids love to play dress-up (so do a lot of adults!) and they do not need a holiday to do it. There are a lot of good excuses to wear animal masks: show and tell, oral reports, costume balls, school or local plays, or just plain fun!

Whether you or someone you know likes animals, The Jungle Store has masks of all kinds for any reason. Follow the link above to check out their great selection and even better prices!

Ghost Hunters Live, More Halloween

We have been getting an inordinate amount of spam here lately - I mean like 50-75 a day! It’s been since Halloween, so even though I know (intellectually) that this is not true, I do wonder if someone somehow affiliated with Brian Harnois hasn’t been storming us!

Okay, I know it’s not true - I said it wasn’t true - I’m just saying!

Speaking of which, I made note of why I fell offline Halloween night: turns out, the little snappy-thing on the phonecord had somehow broken off in the computer plug, so even though I did have the correct cord in the correct plug correctly, it wasn’t actually plugging in like it should have and I didn’t figure it out until like Friday, when I turned the computer on its side because the fan wouldn’t quit whirring. The little piece fell out and I was like, “Damn!” I mean really, even if I had been stone-cold sober (let’s... let’s say I was, shall we?), I don’t know that I would have figured that one out except on a fluke, like I did.

So I watched about 2-3 hours of the Ghost Hunters all-nighter, but it just wasn’t doing it for me. I really wanted to last it out, but between the beers and the computer effing-up, and everything else, I just couldn’t focus on it and was blinking-out. There was absolutely nothing else on, so I wound-up hanging out with a friend and just enjoying the evening.

I have no idea how it turned out, but I haven’t heard any great buzz across the blogosphere or seen any “revealing” ads on Sci-Fi, so I’m assuming not much went down.
