USO - Baltic Sea

USO - North Atlantic, 1954

The crew of the SS Groote Beer saw something rise from the seas in the late summer of 1954.  According to Captain, Jan P. Boshoff, who observed the object through binoculars, the moon-shaped USO was flat and gray, with bright lights on its edges.  It flew away at a 60º angle more rapidly than manmade crafts can move.

Crewmembers on the Aliki P., a Honduran freighter sailing in the same general area, reported, "... a ball of fire moving in and out of water without being extinguished.  Trailing white smoke.  Moving in erratic course, finally disappeared."  It may have been the same USO, as the sighting was radioed-in to the Long Island Coast Guard around the same time.

USO off Delarof - 1945

The crew of the U.S. Army transport Delarof reported a USO some 200' in diameter off the Alaskan Coast around sunset one night in the summer of 1945. The object burst from the sea about a mile from the Delarof, ascended briefly, then doubled-back and circled the ship at least twice before flying away.

USO off the Victoria - 1845

In 1861, Professor Baden Powell published the reports of several eyewitnesses who claimed they saw an "unidentified submersible object," or USO, off the side of the brig, Victoria, in 1845.

According to the Report of the British Association (1861), the entire crew of the Victoria saw three bright, luminous objects emerge from the sea and launch into the sky. The men say the USO remained visible for some 10 minutes.

Powell include the report from someone who witnessed the event while on-land. This eyewitness said the USO were "five times the size of the moon" and bore "streamerlike" appendages he likened to sails.
