VIDEO: Ogopogo July 10, 2018

16-year-old, Blake Neudorf, was on a fishing trip with his dad when something surfaced from the placid waters of Lake Okanagan. Unfortunately, we no longer have that video.

Blake told RT that he believed the object's length to be about 60' and feels certain it is video of the rumored lake creature.  Several other sightings of Ogopogo were reported around the time Neudorf's footage was taken (July 10th, 2018).

Sadly, the video used to be embedded here but now I can only seem to link to it for no reason I've determined as of yet... so that's what I did. The video above is actually from another eyewitness -- two, to be exact -- and is much better. I've never seen swamp gas or a flock of aquatic geese look so... ogopogan.

PHOTO: Phoenix Lights - Arizona, 1997

Phoenix Lights - Arizona, 1997
Phoenix Lights - Arizona, 1997
[First in series]

This is an eyewitness photograph of The Phoenix Lights, a major UFO sighting featuring multiple witnesses which occurred in Phoenix, Arizona on August 13, 1997.  Another famous Phoenix Lights eyewitness photo appears in one of our OddBlog banners, sometimes displayed above.  Sometimes referred to as The Phoenix Incident, the lights were seen as far away as Mexico, with reports of unexplained aerial phenomenon coinciding all the way to Nevada.

Another infamous UFO case from the late 1990s had occurred only one week earlier over Mexico City.  The size and shape of the crafts differ significantly in either case, but the general area suffered several, inexplicable aerial incidents involving craft at this time.  Eyewitnesses throughout North America, of which there were thousands, say this was no formation of individual units, but a single, immense craft.

While incredulous skeptics have fallen all over themselves to debunk the event as "flares," and the US military has kept mum, there is no official explanation for the August 13, 1997 Phoenix Lights UFO Incident over Sonora, Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona.

PHOTO: Chupacabra - Texas, 2003

Chupacabra - Texas, 2003
Chupacabra - Texas, ca. 2003
This is a photo of the actual Chupacabra taken in Texas, and received by this investigator in 2003.  The unknown photographer said he struck it with his vehicle.  The chupacabra photo has been enlarged for clarity; no other modifications have been made.

"Chupacabra" translates into English as "Goat Sucker," as the chupacabra is said to prey upon goats, parakeets, dogs, and chickens with a vampiric bite which drains its victims of blood.

The Fortean Times first reported on the chupacabra in the February/March issue of 1996 (FT:85) as "Puerto Rica's Mammal Mutilator."  In a brief column, it notes that similar reports had been made as early as the 1970s.

The "Lost" Thunderbird Photo

The "Lost" Thunderbird Photo
The "Lost" Thunderbird Photo
Thunderbirds -- and "living dinosaurs," in general -- are a difficult topic to discuss, due to religious Fundamentalists, moneyed "experts" who receive backing from shady organizations and are known to falsify research, and a general lack of evidence that has been made public.

Many photos, video documentation, even alleged specimen, regarding a great number of topics we discuss exist in private collections that are not accessible to the public.  Some can be found in reputable books (where they were licensed for publication), others in privately-owned museums (where no photography is allowed), and elsewhere -- just not online.  Uploading them can result in termination of accounts (though the images are usually just reported/removed), and has -- as they are protected by Copyright and similar restrictions.

Stories of Thunderbirds go back centuries, but appear to be specific to North America.  While tales of winged, sky-faring, man-eating beasts appear in cultures worldwide, the very term is taken from Native American accounts.  Early settlers' accounts repeatedly mention the fear American Indians had of these creatures, and record tales of their attacks on people -- mostly children.  These scant details bear the hallmarks of Legend, but the story goes deeper.

Accounts of posses being amassed, and hunts organized, for Thunderbirds also exist in historical record.  In several cases, these hunts were carried-out by otherwise serious-minded, "common" people of Anglo-Saxon descent who may have been swept-up by hysterical tales of recent attacks, or sightings in the area.  Others were expeditions carried-out by wealthy trophy hunters -- even more important, as it proves that belief in these tales was strong enough to entice men of a higher status (and assumptively better education) into paying top-dollar, and traveling the world to brave unchartered territory, just for the chance to nab one!

There are a handful of similar photos, all of which appear to be fakes based on the fabled accounts of "The Lost Thunderbird picture" -- none of which mention Vicksburg or the Civil War, by the way.  Most Thunderbird accounts of that period came from the American Southwest -- Arizona and the immediate area, to be precise.  Some of these tales were likely cases of mistaken identity coupled with fear -- the product of conditioning from hearing tales of such fearsome, loathsome beasts since childhood -- others, however, are not as easily dismissed.

And, though some modern researchers have conducted studies that seemingly "prove" modern people untrained in Zoology often misidentify known creatures -- not something serious researchers question in the first place -- their apocryphal data proves nothing regarding the knowledge of ancient tribal peoples whose entire lives were spent living and working in tandem with their natural surroundings.  This is especially true of American Indian culture, which revered nature and the animal kingdom.  On a separate note, the very hypothesis smacks of racial bias, as it seems to "confirm" the era's prevailing, racist views toward Amer-Indians more than anything.

This alleged picture of a Thunderbird hunt may well be the "Lost Thunderbird Photo" of paranormal lore.  While many have attempted to debunk it, no conclusive evidence proving its fraudulence has come to light.  Proffering that it may have been a hoax of its day -- a staged photo in front of a theatrical prop or taxidermic creation -- is a sound approach toward establishing reasonable doubt; resorting to claims of digital manipulation is lazy at best, and not at all convincing.  As always, I am not claiming this is an authentic photograph; I remain hopefully skeptical that it is, and so far unswayed by attempts to debunk it.

Especially since I am not sure how this picture made it online, because I think it belongs to a private collection.  Most of the photos from said private collection are unavailable online (although many are available in print), so I am not entirely sure how this particular photo of an alleged Thunderbird hunt around the turn of the 19th-Century persevered.

Though I, too, may be mistaken.

Haunebu III Flying Saucer - UFO / OVNI Korea, 1959

Haunebu - Korea, 1959
Haunebu - Korea, 1959

This is a photo of a Haunebu aircraft taken over Korea in 1959. Haunebu was a known Nazi program allegedly in development prior to WWII. The model above is most likely a Haunebu III, according to reports. While the program and vehicles are real, many of the photographs and lore surrounding the program is counter-intelligence, so knowing for certain what is factual and what is cleverly manufactured propaganda is difficult -- especially for the untrained layman.

Haunebu and VRIL technology are often associated with the "Vril Society" and "Nordic Aliens"- - neither of which exist, nor ever did; this is counter-intelligence. The Haunebu craft employed something known as VRIL technology.

PHOTO: Hollow Earth - The North Pole

Hollow Earth - North Pole?
Hollow Earth - North Pole?
An alleged Russian satellite photograph shows the alleged entrance to the North Pole.  Admiral Richard E. Byrd and a convoy allegedly disappeared in the 1950s on an expedition, following his release of information regarding the discovery of an "Inner Earth."  He was not the first to have speculated on a Hollow Earth Theory.

© The Weirding, 2017

UPDATE:  This is most likely a hoax, though I can confirm nothing, and share this only for discussion.  Admiral Byrd was not associated with the Hollow Earth Theory, and did not die during an expedition -- this may not even be a photo of Earth!  Please see the recent post on Symme's Hole for more information on The Hollow Earth Theory. - 2018

The Brown Lady Ghost Picture

The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall
The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall
The Brown Lady Ghost Photo is the most famous picture of an alleged spirit in the world.  The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall is believed to be the ghost of Lady Dorothy Townshend, who was banished to the estate as punishment for her infidelity.  Captain Provand and Indre Shira, photographers for Country Life, snapped this on September 19th, 1936.

The photo above is widely considered one of the few reputable full body apparitions caught on film; while many mundane explanations for the image have been proffered, The Brown Lady Ghost Picture is not believed to have been any intentional hoax.

Note: This picture was filtered slightly to improve the quality of the image. It was not otherwise altered.

Possible Simian Photographed in UK

A British teenager snapped a photo of what appears to be an apelike creature running around in a public park outside her home. While speculation as to what the creature could be has been running rampant, the park is located about 10 miles away from Monkey World, a tourist trap which claims all of its animals are accounted for. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to leap to the most likely conclusion.

'Lake Monster' Filmed in Iceland

A piece of video shows something snaking through the waters of a river in Iceland. Some say it is Lagarfljótsormurinn, a snakelike creature said to inhabit the river, while skeptics say it is merely a frozen net. The video clearly shows something that appears to be swimming upstream, against the current.

Lagarfljótsormurinn was said to have been thrown into the Lagarfljót river by a ring owner who had wrapped a worm around a piece of jewelry to make it grow. When the owner returned, the worm had grown to immense size, but not the ring, so he threw both into the river. It first appears in literature in 1345.

Ogopogo Caught on Film?

A visitor to Lake Okanagan believes he may have captured Ogopogo, the creature said to live in the lake, on film. Detractors note that it looks like the wake from a boat out of frame, and that really only water can be distinguished from the shaky video which is a brief 26 seconds. Ogopogo has been spotted numerous times and is called "Canada's Loch Ness Monster."

Note that I linked to the Slate video coverage because it has the stills from the eyewitness video along with some background information on the legend of Ogopogo.

Ghosts Bang Around Ohio Home

An Ohio woman claims her house is haunted by the ghosts of children, phantom smells, slamming doors, and men and women having sex in her living room. And she has the pictures to prove it!

The unidentified grandmother who lives in the house with her daughter and granddaughter says the family has become accustomed to the ghosts, though the dog avoids the basement after a peculiar event. However, she admits to being scared whenever she is alone in the home.

Creature Filmed in Brazilian Rainforest

UPDATE 2019

This has no audio but I don't recall if the video originally posted had audio.  I couldn't find the original video but I'm fairly certain it was this one.

Bear in mind that I have no way of knowing where, when, or even why this video was filmed nor anything else about it.  The "alien" looks like a severely malnourished child with an extreme case of hydrocephalis.  It's entirely possible the child could have been abandoned or banished and the whole clip is taken out of context.

New Nessie Pics

Jon Rowe, a commercial fish farmer on Loch Ness, snapped a photograph showing a large, dark shadow beneath the waves with two humps protruding from them. He dismissed claims that the shapes could belong to a buoy, mooring, or diving birds, noting that he has worked and lived along the loch his entire life and never seen anything similar to whatever it is he photographed in the early morning light.

Rowe admits to being a skeptic before taking the picture, but says he is certain the object in the picture is the Loch Ness Monster.

Batplane UFO Spotted Over Spain

Described as "scorpion-like," the UFO sighted over Spain and photographed by Jamie O'Rourke looks more like the Batplane to me, though it does have some scorpion-like qualities. The triangular craft has an elongated nose and two pincer-like fins on each wing. It is black with a clear center, suggesting it is most likely terrestrial in origin.

O'Rourke sent the images to the UFO Global Reporting Center, which covered the sighting there. You can see the series of photos on their blog. The UFO sighting took place August 21st, 2011.

New Nessie Photos Confound Cryptozoologists

William Jobes has been going to Loch Ness for 45 years, hoping to snap a photo of the elusive Loch Ness Monster -- and he believes he may finally have done just that! Jobes says what he believes to have been Nessie's head surfaced in the loch about 200-300 yards from the shore where he stood back in May and he managed to get a single picture. Luckily, what may have been Nessie's back and tail popped up a moment later and Jobes snapped several shots.

While skeptics claim the photos show a stick that may have floated downriver, other experts aren't so sure. The best of the pictures seems to show a rather nondescript "hump" with what may be a tail poking out of the water just behind it.

"I know the difference between a piece of wood or a particular animal. I immediately did think it was a seal but it's head was like a sheep." Jobes told reporters. The picture, taken about 11:10am on May 24th, 2011, can be seen at The Daily Mail.

In June, owners of a cafe on Loch Ness claimed to have spotted Nessie, though many dismissed their claim as financially-motivated.
