New Design Incoming
I know it's been slow here for a while but things should pick-up here in coming months. As I've mentioned previously, if you haven't visited the core site in a while, please take a moment to do so, as we're restructuring, reorganizing, and redesigning everything - which includes The OddBlog.
It is going to take a while to get to everything and if World of Warcraft has taught me anything, it's that many people do not care for change. We understand that you have become familiar with everything and we hate to disrupt that, but it's long past time that we improve the look and feel of this place, as well as the navigation.
In the years since this blog was established, things have changed dramatically - this includes Blogger, social networking, information sharing, even HTML - and we need to upgrade. We have a few designs from which to choose and will be playing with these elements over the coming weeks; we are not certain as to which of these will best serve our purposes and may have to modify them even after placement.

Working on Integration
The OddBlog is not exactly a stand-alone blog but part of a small network of blogs offered by The Weirding. While it is accessible without having to visit the site directly, it is available through the site and we want more people to visit the site so that we make more money (and can continue to bring you stuff here, and elsewhere, more often).
So while I have been under the weather the past week or so, I have still been working on better integrating the blogs and the site. There are things with which I am still having problems but they are mostly design-oriented. I worked pretty hard at tightening-up the blogs over the last week or two and now it's largely just a waiting game on that front simply because it takes a bit for the search engines to update their information. The week prior, I worked on getting the movies scheduled and the promos for those finished.
So I haven't done much this week but I'll get some things done today. Just please be patient, as we haven't forgotten you nor are we abandoning the blog, just really quite busy as I said we would be.

Site Update
I know I haven't posted much lately but I have been very busy updating the website. If you haven't checked it out in a while, give it a go and let me know what you think of the new design and direction. We're going to be posting more content as well. Just hit the banner to the right there.

Fright-Day Nights on The Weirding @ Facebook
![]() |
| Still Wrong. |
We've only done it once and I meant to promote here before then but got tied-up with another event and simply forgot. That page is a lot for one person to run by himself but I'm doing what I can!
So please join us and Like and comment on the programs and features you enjoy so I know what to bring you more of. Thanks!
© The Weirding, 2014
UPDATE: Fright-Day Nights have been discontinued, and we no longer maintain the Facebook pages. We still sometimes riff movies, and have four seasons' worth of videos for viewing, though! Find out more on The B-Raters. - 2018

Seeking Administrative Staff
I told you earlier that we opened a Facebook Page for the website. Far from simply promoting the site, it is an extension of it. We can do certain things on the FB Page that we cannot on the site itself.
However we desperately need administrators (admin) to help us find and post content - that's really all there is to it! You simply find content online that fits with the content we provide and cover and post it to the Timeline for others to see.
If you think you could help us do this, please message the Page directly or just comment here. Be sure to give me some way of contacting you, as well. Thanks!

The Weirding is Down
The Weirding is down right now so you probably can't even see this and won't until it gets back up and going but I thought I should address it even if you don't see it until later. What happened is that my registrar was recently hacked and the hosting company is moving a bunch of stuff to some kind of new technology or something like that and I missed the e-mails telling me I needed to renew. I should have been more on top of things but it's been difficult lately.
Anyway, it was mostly my fault and everything should be fine in a few days. He said hopefully...

Club Nine
I realize that not everyone who sees this plays tabletop RPG - in fact, I would doubt that many do. However, The Weirding is largely dedicated to tabletop RPG, and I've just published a new scenario setting for the Vincent campaign for use with the Chill RPG rules set. Chill is a contemporary horror tabletop roleplaying game featuring many of the situations, creatures, and concepts we cover here on The OddBlog.
Club Nine is an important fixture in the Vincent campaign, and this page covers basically everything players need to know about the location. The entire game, and all of its elements, are fictitious but based on real life myths, lore, and legends, as well as cinematic and literary creations.
Even if you are not a tabletop RPG fan, even if you do not play Chill, you might enjoy reading about these fictional creations.

J.M. DeMatteis Interview
I got the chance to speak to author and comics creator, J.M. DeMatteis about a host of issues, including his upcoming projects. You may know him best as the creator of Moonshadow or Blood, back in the Epic days, or his famous runs on Amazing Spider-Man, but he has worked in a multitude of fields and has interesting and thought-provoking ideas on a host of other issues.

Long Work Weekend
Sorry for my time away. Everyone here in America had a long weekend thanks to the holiday, but mine (as ever) was spent working. I know The Weirding has a long way to go, but I managed to get a handful of issues settled and a handful of new pages up - and previously-published pages fixed.
I know that you are visiting this blog because you're into cryptozoology, ufology, and the Unexplained, but there's a lot of that to be had across The Weirding as a whole. I am also interested in these things, and The Weirding is dedicated to odd, quirky, nerdy stuff along these very lines. You don't have to be a comic book geek or tabletop roleplaying nerd to appreciate everything else we have going on here.
So take a moment to check it out and let me know what you think! I'm all ears (and that's creepy as hell!).
(I HEARD THAT!)

Check Out ChiLL
I know you're into cryptozoology, ufology, and real-world mysteries of the unexplained, but I have a feeling at least some of you are tabletop RPG gamers, lapsed or current. The Weirding is basically separate from The OddBlog, but shares the domain and is actually just another department of it, so I wanted to take a moment to promote the ChiLL RPG section.
ChiLL is a tabletop roleplaying game, like Dungeons & Dragons, focusing on Creatures of the Unknown - many of which are based on real-world myths, legends, and accounts of the Unexplained. While you are unlikely to learn anything about the real-world counterparts, it is an interesting look at how pop-culture latches onto these things. It's particularly interesting when thought of in historical context.
There was a slight uptick in interest in the Unexplained in the 1990s. While I will always associate the 1990s with a resurgence in the 1960's movements, and it was, there were a handful of 1970's concepts and trends that re-emerged as well - an interest in UFOs being foremost among these. Renewed interest in the Roswell incident was at the forefront of this, but it went much further, and much deeper. Eventually, it died-out and we're still here, a decade or so later.
Still, the concepts and ideas presented in the game are interesting for real-world researchers for these reasons. The Weirding covers mostly game-specific material, but I'm about to publish a larger department on Creatures of the Unknown that will reference stories and posts from The OddBlog quite often. I just redesigned the material already published and I think you'd dig it. So check it out!

Happy Halloween!
Sorry I missed the opportunity to wish you a happy Halloween, but we sat through a bad horror movie marathon and I couldn't miss that. Yes, I suppose my life may be considered "sad" by some, but I really enjoy things like that and I had a great time doing it.
Anyway, the Chill updates are coming, there were just too many complications and even if I'd met the deadline (yesterday), it simply wouldn't have been done and I'd have been revising it well into the new deadline (Christmas / New Year's). There will be new content well before then, if you care to check, but the new deadline is when I hope to have everything finalized.
As I've said before, I have more responsibilities now and am having to cut-back on posting as often as I used to, and this carries over to other aspects of my life. But everything's cool; the content will get there, I'm just still learning how to set realistic deadlines and be flexible, set priorities, and so forth.

Halloween Updates
Obviously, we're all over the map here - the paranormal, Cyberculture, comic books - but the primary thrust of The Weirding remains the RPG content. And this Halloween, we've got a doozy for you: the long-awaited Chill @ The Weirding has been unleashed!
Technically, I got sick a week before Halloween and ran out of time - in many cases, the pages are not only incomplete, but the design elements are all effed-up. I apologize, but what can I do? I'll continue tweaking, updating, and uploading what I didn't get posted on Halloween. Still, this is the biggest release yet, and (as always) it's just a drop in the bucket; there's much, much, much more to come but you'll just have to make-do with what I managed to get published for now.
Chill is a horror RPG centering on envoys from a highly-secret, Supernatural investigation agency called the Society of the White Way. A classic horror RPG, Chill remains an underground staple amongst the cognoscenti. A third-edition was recently set to be released (from OtherWorld Creations), but unfortunately, has so far fallen-through. Fans of The OddBlog would enjoy it, so be sure to check it out!

Technical Notes
I have switched registrars and have been having some issues getting it to go through. I will be working on it today and that may keep me from posting anything new for a day or two. But the real reason I'm writing is in case things get wonky and the site can't be reached.
If The Weirding is down for any amount of time, please be patient and we'll be right back. Like I say, this shouldn't happen, but you know how things go; just in case it does, I can always be found at The Rundown. I'll address any technical issues there, so you can keep-up with it all until we get back on our feet.
Again, I did everything right and in plenty of time, so there really shouldn't be any problems; this is just to give you advance warning - a "better safe than sorry" scenario.

Check Out the Rest of the Site
I know most of you come here specifically for odd news - the paranormal and Supernatural, cryptozoological stuff, and just plain weird bits - and I'm so glad you do! But I also know few of you check out the rest of The Weirding, and I wish you'd take a moment to do so.
We cover a slew of topics there, from comic books and tabletop roleplaying games to writing to Cyberculture - and more than a few of them are classifiably "odd." Regular readers know that we get our share of "crossover" posts (which usually include a link to whatever other department they crosssover with), so you really never know what you might find. In particular, the Chill and Dark Conspiracy games deal directly with the subjects we cover here - I link to a lot of posts from those departments, in fact - so you might get a kick out of checking those out (though they're entirely fictitious).
I spend a whole lot of time developing The Weirding - that's where I am most of the times I'm not here - so I obviously want people to check it out, but seeing as how The OddBlog is part of The Weirding, you guys in particular just might find something you dig!

Technical Difficulties
I have much to bring you and will be getting to it sometime today or tomorrow, but I had to let you know that the host for The Weirding is undergoing some server maintenance this weekend. If you have tried to access the site without success, this is why.
I can still make posts without problems, but if the server is down when I do, you basically won't see them until it comes up, at which point, you'll be flooded with them! I apologize for this, but it's out of my hands. I was told everything should be back to normal by Monday.

Conspiracy Theories
The OddBlog is both a stand-alone blog and a department on The Weirding. So while I made the announcement over to The Rundown (where I cover gaming, comics, and pop-culture stuff), I wanted to mention Dark Conspiracy @ The Weirding here, too.
I know a lot of you come here just for The OddBlog, and anyone who ends up here from The Weirding most likely went there looking for something unrelated, but Dark Conspiracy is one of those subjects that straddles the spectrum. After all, The Weirding is a collection of subjects I'm interested in and most of the people I've met through one of these interests or the other was invariably keen on the... others. Ahem.
ANYwho, I wasn't going to mention Dark Conspiracy @ The Weirding here until I covered the Mystery Copter in Tempe article:
The very first thing I thought about when I read the copter was a Vietnam-era copter flying circles in a residential neighborhood was all those stories about the Bermuda Triangle, alternate dimensions, and time-space continuums! I know, I know - and it's really not like I seriously thought any of these things were at=play, it's just where my mind wanders - and I love it! That's why I love Dark Conspiracy! Even if you are not a gamer, you might get a kick out of it:
Dark Conspiracy is set in a dark near future where the tabloid stories (the good ones - the old ones from the 80s, like "I was a Bigfoot's Love Slave" and shit) are real and the Dark Conspiracy is hiding all manner of ugly aliens, bent on world domination. It is so right up your alley if you enjoy this blog!
Of course, a lot of the content is gaming-related and you won't have any interest in that stuff if you don't play, but Metrodome is an entire domed city for extended (campaign) play, so there's a whole lot of it that can be read, more or less, as a story (without a linear narrative).
Anyway, I've spent a lot of time on it - that's why things got slow this week (I figured I could afford the time off, with the holiday and all) - and I'll be spending a lot more time on it from now on, so I figured I'd give it a plug, just in case.

A Day Off
One of the great things about working for one's self is being able to take a day off whenever you feel like it. It doesn't always work that way, but when it does, it's pretty friggin' sweet. Well, yesterday was one of them days. I still had to do a little work and wound-up on the computer for the better part of the day anyway (doing other stuff), but I really needed some time to just relax and not have to think.
Anyway, the whole "no more posting on the weekends" hasn't worked since I decided to do it, so why bother? I give. Still, as a rule of thumb, expect fewer posts on the weekends. Everyone needs some time off now and then and even on days I say I'm not working, I usually end up posting something. Still, I have non-Web-related things I have to handle and I need time to do them.
I am still working on these damned tags. It's daunting because there are so many and it's such repetitive work, but it's coming together. I am also going to be changing some of the design elements around, probably over the weekend, and it usually takes a few days for that to settle. You shouldn't have any problems accessing the blog, just letting you know in case things look a little funky when you do.
The Weirding is nothing if not a collection of my interests, and I've found throughout the years that, like me, people who are interested in one of The Weirding's topics usually have at least a passing interest in the others, so don't forget to check out the entire site, which you can access from the titlebar (top right) anywhere on the site and related blogs. A lot of the stuff I cover here serves as background and/or inspiration for RPG (role-playing) content and many posts force me to choose where I publish them, so something that might otherwise have been posted here gets hung in one of the other departments simply because it fits better there; take a surf around - who knows what you'll find?
