Archaeologists in Poland uncovered gravesites containing corpses whose heads had been separated from their bodies. They are believed to be the graves of "vampires." In the early Slavic tradition, removing the head from the body was believed to keep vampires from returning from the dead. Archaeologists say the bodies did not have any jewelry, belt buckles, or buttons on their clothes, so they were not sure how old the graves were.
The bodies were discovered during the construction of a new road.

Indian Officials Offer $2000 Reward for Captured Vampires
Residents of Dharampuri in India are refusing to come outside after nightfall and have taken to painting holy symbols on the fronts of their houses to ward off Ratha Kaatten -- local vampires. After a spate of cattle killings in the area, word spread that the cattle were being killed by Ratha Kaatten.
Authorities say the rumors were started by bootleggers and other criminals whose night time activities were being disturbed. To prove there are no Ratha Kaatten attacking the livestock, they have offered a $2000 reward for the corpse of any vampire.

Woman Bites Man in "Vampire Attack"
A 22-year-old woman apparently bit an elderly man after the two got out of the rain and waited together on the porch of a vacant restaurant. The elderly man fell asleep and awoke to find the young woman on top of him, biting his arms and neck. He was treated at a hospital with stitches.
69-year-old Milton Ellis told police 22-year-old Josephine Smith told him she was a vampire and was "going to eat [him]." Smith was found bloody and half-naked nearby, but had no memory of the incident and did not identify herself to them as a vampire. She was arrested and is being held on bail.

Texas Man Attacks Woman, Claims to be Vampire
19-year-old Lyle Monroe Bensley was growling and hissing in a parking lot wearing only his boxer shorts when police found him. They were called after Bensley broke into a woman's home in Galveston, Texas and tried to drink her blood. Bensley claimed he was a 500-year-old vampire who needed to feed.
The woman was not harmed. Bensley is being held on $40,000 bond and awaits a psychiatric evaluation in a Galveston jail. According to reports, Bensley was not on drugs or medication at the time of the attack and arrest, and asked police to restrain him so he wouldn't kill them.

Colorado Woman Cites Vampire for Wreck
A Colorado woman claims to have spotted a vampire in the middle of a dirt road in Grand Valley. She told police she put her SUV in reverse, startled by the creature, and crashed into a canal. Her husband came to the scene and took the uninjured woman home. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved.

'Vampire' Attack in New Zealand
A New Zealand man alleges he was attacked by three "vampires" who bit him and drank his blood. Police charged two youths, one of whom has a mohawk and several piercings. A third is wanted, but has not been apprehended.
The suspect with the mohawk told reporters he was aware that the victim's blood had been drunk, but he did not engage in such an activity. He says that though he "may look like a punk," he is not; he says he is "just different."
"Do I look like a vampire?" he asked reporters. "I'm out during the daytime!"
He did, however, admit to biting the man, whom he claims was hitting on his "missus."
The three face charges carrying sentences of up to 14 years in prison.

Vampire to Wed Teen Bride?
Jonathon "The Impaler" Sharkey is a self-proclaimed "satanic vampire and hectate [sic] witch" who ran for governor of Minnesota in 2006. Now, he's run-off with his would-be teenaged bride and they're on a collision course with wackiness in a heart-warming adven... Actually, they're taunting the girl's family through blog posts on a public, area website and YouTube videos.
The 16-year old girl went willingly, which is not against the law in Minnesota as The Impaler can in no way be considered an "authority figure" of hers, and her mother admits she does not fear for her daughter's safety, but the mother called the FBI after reading a threatening blog post by Sharkey.
