The Stacy Brown Bigfoot FLIR Footage (VIDEO)

The FLIR video footage taken by Stacy Brown in 2012, purportedly of Bigfoot, remains unexplained.  As with several other Bigfoot videos in which the unidentified humanoid figures can be seen in motion, attempts to duplicate those movements by humans have proven impossible.

Recently, documents came to light showing that even the FBI tried to determine what the Sasquatch is, if it exists.  In 1999, The Smithsonian Institute tested alleged Bigfoot DNA and found that the sample belonged to "no known creature."  Sadly, the organization has since been sold to private owners and the related articles apparently removed from the Internet, leading many to speculate as to why possible evidence of Bigfoot may be being kept from the public.

However, the results were covered by the Smithsonian Magazine in 1999 (or maybe 1998, I cannot recall, and an Internet search provided only clues). ¹

If the Bigfoot does not exist, who (or what) is behind such startling video and images... and why?

¹ I did have a copy of it, once upon a time, and may still, but it is boxed up somewhere downstairs with a bunch of Heavy Metal and National Geographic magazines.  If I come across it, I will post it, along with more about Bigfoot.

Regulations Governing Mountain Climbing Expeditions in Nepal - Relating to Yeti

In 1959, the US Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal issued a one-pager entitled Regulations Governing Mountain Climbing Expeditions in Nepal — Relating to Yeti.  In the memo, pictured here, the US Embassy demanded $77 for expeditions meant to prove or disprove the existence of the elusive cryptid (known in North America as Bigfoot).

However, the document clearly states that any and all evidence of the Yeti's existence must be immediately surrendered to the Nepalese government, and not reported to journalists or media outlets.  Presumably, any definitive evidence might torpedo the region's tourism industry (which remains a booming trade to this day) -- but it could also endanger the Yeti.

Though this document was released several years back, and reported on by both Slate and Time, it was brought to our attention by peers who shall remain anonymous (but are welcome to comment).  We would like to thank them for the Regulations Governing Mountain Climbing Expeditions in Nepal — Relating to Yeti!

Momo the Missouri Monster

Momo the Missouri Monster is largely a footnote in the annals of cryptozoology, having only two reports from early 1970 to its credit. Momo is described as "half ape, half man," covered in black fur, with glowing, orange eyes.

True to many Sasquatch, Momo -- MO for Missouri, MO for monster -- was reported to have been taller than man, reek of an awful odor, and scare dogs. In July, 1971, two women claimed Momo made bizarre noises as they passed it on Highway 79. Other reports say the women were picnicking when Momo accosted them, then ate a peanut butter sandwich when they fled to the safety of their car.

Police did not notify the public about the women's sighting until 1972, when a report of a giant, hairy beast carrying a dead dog surfaced. A nearby farmer said he had heard growling noises near his home, and that his new dog was missing. Sightings in the area continued for a few weeks, and tracks were discovered. Casts of the tracks were sent to Lawrence Curtis at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden.

He concluded that the tracks were fake.

No credible Momo sightings have been reported since, though some sources indicate Momo has been spotted up and down the Mississippi River, and there is even a short documentary.

The Oldest Recorded Sasquatch Sighting (Skræling)

A Viking Foray

According to some accounts, the oldest known sighting of a Bigfoot or Sasquatch in "The New World" was recorded by none other than Leif Erikson, or Erik the Red. Erikkson referred to "ugly, hairy men" with great black eyes" who towered over himself and his fellow Norsemen. The name he gave them was "Skræling."

While others insist this description refers to the Thule people, a pre-Inuit peoples who lived in the regions where Ericson and his men are said to have landed, including Canada, some note the inclusion of the word "hairy" as indicative of a different species. The Norse Vikings were, after all, very hairy -- they are most often depicted with great beards and matted hair, themselves.

Perhaps even more intriguing is the connection between the use of the word, Skræling, and the existence of pygmies, possibly throughout the globe. The Vikings were known to grow quite tall themselves, in addition to being hirsute; to many peoples, they would be hairy and towering figures.

As History repeats itself, we are continually finding out that our ancestors knew far more about the world than even we do today, and that many of the "facts" we thought we knew are erroneous.

While the Skræling of which Erik the Red spoke may have been nothing more than the indigenous American peoples of their time, the connection to countless descriptions of Bigfoot seem to cloud the issue.

New Bigfoot Video

A new video claiming to have captured Bigfoot in the wild has surfaced and has racked up over one million hits on YouTube. The film is silent and shows a hairy figure walking across a hilltop far away from the camera. The humanoid creature appears for about 20 seconds before lumbering off camera.

The new film has excited researchers and the public, though skeptics have raised the usual questions as to its authenticity. Recently, several outlets have offered cash prizes to anyone who can present irrefutable proof of Bigfoot's existence. So far, none of the prizes have been claimed.

Bigfoot Researcher Looking to Launch

Jeffrey Meldrum may be ridiculed by some of his peers for his strange pursuits but he seems to genuinely believe there is something to the legend of Bigfoot in America. So much so that he is seeking to drum-up $300,000 in private donations to launch a specialized blimp that would fly over areas in which Bigfoot is thought to live in search of evidence of the creature's existence.

So far he has not raised much money. He told reporters he has been in talks with two cable channels regarding a reality show to take place from the deck of the blimp during the search. The money is being raised to build the blimp.

$10m for Proof of Bigfoot

American cable station Spike TV announced a new reality show in which competing teams try to find evidence of Bigfoot. If any of them can do it, they win $10 million. The one hour show will follow the teams and be presented in 10 one-hour episodes.

Idaho Students Film Bigfoot

Several students from Idaho claim they saw a "bulky" figure staring at them through the woods while on a field trip. One of the students took video of the creature, which at least one expert says has an arm swing exactly like the figure seen in the famous Patterson video. While he says there is always room for a hoax, he believes the video is very exciting if it proves to be authentic.

Nepalese Yeti Finger Human

According to experts at the Edinburgh Zoo, the Yeti finger smuggled out of India in the 1950s is actually the finger of a human. DNA results prove the finger is that of a human and not some unidentified ape-man or Bigfoot creature said to roam the area from which it was taken.

Actor James Stewart played a key role in smuggling the finger out of India. He hid it in his wife's lingerie case. The finger was thought to be that of a yeti.

Armed Bigfoot

An 8'-tall monster, hairy and standing upright, scared skaters near Chesterfield, OH in 1902. The creature was reported to have been wielding a club. Four-toed tracks measuring 22" long and 7" wide were discovered at the site.

Ivan Marx - Bigfoot and the Mothman

Ivan Marx was a controversial figure in the search for Bigfoot.  He made a movie or two and claimed to have caught the monster on film, but the film was later deemed a hoax.  He made several more movies based on his supposed encounters and attempts to track the beast, but serious investigators dismiss his claims.

Marx was central to the Bossburg, Washington, "Cripple Foot" track findings, in which one of the footprints appeared to show a creature affected by a condition similar to "club-foot."  These tracks were later debunked, though doubt as to their authenticity remains.

Here is just over seven minutes of footage Marx shot in which he claims to have captured images of Bigfoot.  One of the creatures was later redubbed a Mothman sighting, as it appears to show a headless torso.

Russia Establishes Yeti Institute

Following no fewer than 15 reported encounters in recent months, Russian officials are establishing an institute dedicated to the research of this Siberian Yeti out of Kemerovo State University. Dr. Igor Burtsev, who will lead the department, said he believes up to 30 Yeti live in the area in which the reports were collected during an expedition last summer.

Dr. Burtsev says the Yeti are approximately 7' tall and resemble bears with red and black fur. The tribe lives near the remote Mount Shoria region in southern Siberia. He believes these Bigfoot may be Neanderthal who have managed to survive into the present age. But, though two-legged, these Yeti are known for their tree-climbing abilities.

Dr. Burtsev said there are about 30 Russian scientists working on projects regarding the Abominable Snowman in some fashion, and all will be integrated into the new institute. Leading Russian scientists continue to deny the existence of Bigfoot, though some anecdotal evidence was uncovered during an expedition into Asia.

Abstaining from Recent Bigfoot Sightings

Some readers may know there has been a small "outburst" of supposed Bigfoot sightings in various regions as late, but I am not posting them yet because they lack basically all credibility. This is a blog, not a news source, but it is a resource for enthusiasts and investigators alike, and I don't want to follow a story for weeks on-end only to learn it was a monkey in a man's suit or something. Honestly, I simply don't have the time.

However, I did want to mention them in case you're interested. They've been widely-reported on other sites and blogs, some of which will follow them through to their end. Also, once (if) the investigations into these sightings begin, I'll bring you more on them then. Several of them were just too specious to bother with.

The Lake Worth Monster - Texas' Bigfoot

Though reports of a large creature in the Fort Worth, TX area had been coming in for nearly two months, police dismissed them as pranks until July 10^th, 1969, when six eyewitnesses with an 18" scratch on their car flooded their office one night to report a large, hairy and scaly "monster" which fell from the trees to attack them.

Though they investigated, they found nothing, but the local paper picked-up on the story and ran a feature on the "goat-man" of Fort Worth, Texas. Some described it as nearing 7' in height, and weighing some 300-lbs. The Lake Worth Monster was covered in whitish-grey hair, beneath which most reported scales or scaly skin.

The next day, some 30+ people were gathered to get a glimpse of the Lake Worth Monster, and it did not disappoint. A mass sighting resulted in sheriff's deputies being called to the scene. When some onlookers attempted to approach the creature, it is said it threw a tire at them -- with the rim still inside it!

A famous picture was taken which resembles little more than a cottonball-blob, and at which the photographer now scoffs. The last sighting occurred some two months after the first and police later blamed pranksters, but others are not entirely convinced and no suspects were ever arrested or even accused.

Bigfoot Encounter: North Carolina

Tim Peeler of Cleveland County lives right beside the South Mountain State Park, which is one of the least developed recreational areas in North Carolina. Peeler says he heard screeching and grunting sounds in the early morning of June 5^th, so came outside to check on his dogs. That is when he claims to have encountered a 10'-tall man with yellowish-blond hair and a long beard and "tough-talked" him off the property, though the creature later returned. Peeler claims the creature, which he assumes to be a Bigfoot, had six fingers on each hand.

Reporters note that there were several reports of a Bigfoot-type creature between 1978 and 1979, as well. At that time, residents reported seeing a black-haired creature which walked on two feet. Hunts were conducted and large prints were found, but the sightings suddenly stopped in 1979. One theory of the time held that it was a panther.

New Ancient Hominid Found?

Researchers believe a new hominid -- human-like ancestor -- has been discovered. The bones of what appear to be an adult female and juvenile male, possibly mother and son, were found in South Africa, not far from Johannesburg. The remains are around 2 million years old, and appear to have died at the same time, or soon after one another. The hominid has been named Australopithecus sediba. "Sediba" is Sesotho, the language spoken in South Africa, for "fountain"

Some believe they are the remains of a previously unknown hominid, representing the bridge between, "an ape that walks on two legs to, effectively, us." Others disagree, as the precise placement of the A. sediba remains in Man's history is proving controversial. The hominid reportedly has a mixture of ancient and modern features, such as smaller teeth and an advanced pelvis, but long arms and a small brain.

Experts say the remains were found on top of others, none of which appear to have been scavenged, suggesting they were entombed... quickly.

The Maine 'Snow Monkey'

Here is one which managed to escape my radar until recently: The Maine "Snow Monkey," which some are suggesting may be proof of Bigfoot.

The video was posted to YouTube back in January, but once it became an Internet sensation (?), whomever posted it took it down. The video is still available from The Sun, and between audio and visual, it appears to be quite real.

The video shows some kind of creature perched high in a tree. At first thought to be a bear, once the cameraman zooms in, it becomes rather clearly a monkey. Though details are sketchy, as the cameraman is obviously far away, you can just make out the face in some of the later moments of the video.

Whatever the case may be - Bigfoot or no - I know there aren't supposed to be any monkeys in Maine! Others agree that it does not appear to be any sort of hoax.
