Unknown Creature Discovered in Louisville, KY

Mark Cothren shot and killed a strange animal on his Kentucky property on December 18th, 2010, and no one is certain what the creature is! While many have guessed everything from raccoon to dog, the Chupacabra seems to be everyone's favorite choice.

I actually think the creature looks like a kangaroo infected with mange.

The Cryptozoological Curiosity of Wetzel Kangaroo Beer

For a solid decade -- 1957 - 1967 -- residents in and around Coon Rapids, Minneapolis repeatedly encountered at least two kangaroos. The wood behind the suburban Anoka County Fairgrounds is where they are believed to have lived, though they were spotted as far away as Nebraska, sometimes hundreds of miles apart from one another.

A local brewer, Charles Wetzel, bore witness to one of the kangaroos, inspiring him to brew the Wetzel Kangaroo Beer. In fact, it turns out that there is a thriving microbrewery scene involving cryptids and cryptozoological, which is covered quite well by Cryptobrewology dotCom.

Tennessee - January, 1934: Carnivorous Kangaroo or Chupacabra?

In January of 1934, rural Tennessee was under attack from a creature, or creatures, eyewitnesses reported as "fast as lightning" that "looked like a giant kangaroo."  The creature was said to leap and jump about fields, but also attack geese, pets, and ducks.  Kangaroo are vegetarian and generally considered docile.

The outbreak was carried by newspapers nationwide, but largely as a means for ridicule.  Yet eyewitnesses refused to back-down.  A report in the Chattanooga Daily Times even "corroborated" one attack in which, "A kangaroolike beast visited the community and killed dogs left and right, and that's all there is to it."  However, the rash of sightings came and went within that single month, and killer, carnivorous kangaroo have never been reported in or around the area since, leading many to dismiss the incident as a hoax.

But this was nearly 50 years before the legend of the chupacabra became widespread.  Could the carnivorous kangaroo attacks in 1934 Tennessee have been the work of a chupacabra, or did a roo just happen to find its way down South from its more natural habitat (kangaroo have been spotted in many states north of Tennessee) and go a little mad on some animals it may have considered threatening?

There Are Kangaroos in Wisconsin

There are kangaroo in the American state of Wisconsin.

There was an outbreak of kangaroo sightings in and around the Wisconsin area in the 1970s and '80s, as well as across several other states. In 1978, two Polaroids showing a large kangaroo standing alongside a Menomonee Falls highway emerged. An expert likened the creature in the pictures to the brush kangaroo indigenous to Tasmania.

In January of 2005, authorities captured a 150-lb. kangaroo in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Eyewitnesses had called for days before police investigated. No one knows where the marsupial came from.

Speared Kangaroo Should Recover

Australian wildlife officials were horrified to find a kangaroo speared through the mouth by an arrow. It had apparently managed to survive for at least a week on its own, despite its condition. "It's just unbelievable, I can't believe that anyone would do something so cruel," one official told the BBC.

The injured kangaroo was found in the same region as another, which was shot in the rump. Australian officials recently told the population to feel free to eat the roo meat. Further, the Australian army is actively culling some 6000 near the capitol. The kangaroo population has undergone a small boom lately and many have become more aggressive toward humans. However, cruelty toward the creatures has also been on the rise as late.

Wildlife Victoria has posted a $7600 reward for information leading to the capture of whomever did this. Meanwhile, the kangaroo which was shot in the mouth is being looked after by a veterinarian who "remains optimistic" that it will make a full recovery.

Old Woman's Roo'ed Encounter

A 67-year old retiree was picking flowers near her home in the small town of Sunbury, near Melbourne, when she was attacked by a kangaroo. The roo knocked her down and clawed her. While the entire encounter only lasted about 30 second, she suffered scratches to her head, neck, and back severe enough to warrant surgery.

Some believe the kangaroo attacked because it was hungry. Townspeople note kangaroos have been approaching the houses in the neighborhood more frequently lately and many had feared an attack. Droughts in the region have killed much of the grasses the marsupials usually eat.

In March, a kangaroo bounded through a window in Canberra. It destroyed the bedroom before the homeowner found the courage to displace it by putting it in a "headlock" and dragging it outside. Last year, we brought you a similar report of an attack on an elderly woman. In that attack, her dog chased off the kangaroo, but not before she also suffered serious wounds.

Wombat TP

Australian... industrialists? Someone in Australia had been playing with poo, kangaroo poo to be more specific, trying to make various products from it, such as paper. Because these animals are herbivores, their waste is largely fibrous. When tourists were introduced to the concept, they would ask questions such as "Can you make it from sheep, koalas, etc." The animal most mentioned, though, was the wombat. So Creative Paper, a company local to Burnie, decided to find out.

Everyday, a local farmer collects the droppings from his single wombat, named Nugget. The waste is then sent to Creative Paper, which boils it down, and creates novelty toilet paper for sale to tourists. While workers say it smells "horrific, as you can imagine" while being boiled, once processed, it bears no scent.

Police Hunt Roo-Kickboxer

A cowardly bully who came across a dazed kangaroo practiced his kickboxing skills on the poor creature, then uploaded the results to YouTube. Now, police are searching for him.

An unidentified boy can be seen kicking and punching the dazed animal before pulling it toward him and landing a possibly fatal knee to the chest. The kangaroo appears stunned, perhaps hit by a car, though it could be the result of something the boy and/or his friend filming the abuse did to it.

Dog Saves Woman from Kangaroo

A kangaroo attacked 65 year-old Rosemary Neal on her farm in New South Wales, Australia.  Her screaming attracted the attention of her pet dog, who chased the kangaroo away.

A witness said the kangaroo simply appeared and attacked her, adding the area had been overrun with the marsupials in recent years.  Kangaroos are widespread in their native Australia, but are not known to be aggressive toward humans, in general.

Ms. Neal was hospitalized with a concussion, as well as scratches and cuts to her head, face, arms, hands, and back.
