Believe it or don't (I don't have the money to fight a lawsuit), a restaurant in Sydney, Australia is for dogs only. Chew Chew serves only organic, all-natural dishes and doggie treats -- and serves only dogs. (Cats are actually welcome for lunch anytime after 2pm, but must make reservations to ensure a dog-free atmosphere). Customers can also purchase Chew Chew's foods and treats from the restaurant or online. Chew Chew also serves "doggy-cinos," a coffee treat for pooches, which comes with sprinkles of liver.
Britons can rest easy, as their dogs are catered to by an ice cream truck serving doggy cones.

Roy: Border Collie, Duckherder
A Northumberland border collie is training to make the English sheepdog team by herding ducks. Roy's 24-year-old owner, Emma Gray, says the Indian Runner ducks make for good training because they are slow and more predictable than sheep.
Roy has become a hit with visitors to the Morpeth farm, but Ms. Gray is hoping Roy is chosen to represent the UK in the International Sheep Dog Society (ISDS) World Trials. The competition is held every three years.

Rabid Foxes in SC Attack!
This one is as much a public service announcement as it is an "odd" post, because rabid wild animals is about as natural as you can get -- but attacks on humans by foxes are almost unheard of. In Moore County, South Carolina though, at least two men have been attacked by rabid fox(es) this week alone!
A 22-year old man was attacked while biking. Though he struck the animal with his bicycle, it continued pursuing him. A second successful strike dispatched the fox. This may have been the same fox which, emboldened by rabies, attacked an 11-year old boy in the same area the next day. Luckily, the child was able to pin the fox down to the ground until it tired somewhat. He then brought the fox home with him. The creature later tested positive for rabies, but the child was already undergoing treatment for the same.
Veterinarians have but one means of testing for rabies: Decapitation of the animal. This is why you are told to collect any animal that bites, scratches, or otherwise attacks you -- if possible, of course. Many times, rabies injections -- a lengthy, painful process -- are unnecessary, and the veterinarian can observe the animal under controlled conditions for several days before deciding the animal must be destroyed for more tests.

Korea Claims First Dog Clones... Again
A firm in South Korea claims to be the first to successfully clone canines.
An American from California ponied-up $50,000 to have her dead dog cloned. The clones were unveiled at a press conference in Seoul today. One of the scientists involved was also on the team which claimed to have cloned the very first dog in 2005.
While cloning canines is possible, the process is known to be difficult and risky.

Attendance at the Buddhist Jegenin temple has risen 30% since then, with many followers attending services just to watch the little pooch pray. But, while he clasps his forepaws to his head, "It's not like we can teach him to cross his legs," Yoshikuni said.

Heart of Rome Unearthed - The Lupercal
Some are saying they may have found the heart of Rome -- literally.
An integral part of Roman mythology, the Lupercal is where the she-wolf is said to have suckled the founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus, after they were found on the banks of the River Tiber. The cave was uncovered by workers near the ruins of Emperor Augustus' palace on the Palatine hill.
The 26'-high cave is decorated with shells, mosaics, and marble. In Roman times, young nobles called Luperci participated in a popular fertility festival called the Lupercalia every February 15th. Naked but for the skins of goats sacrificed that day, the young men would run around Palatine hill, striking women's hands with strips of the goatskin.
The Italian Culture Minister, Francesco Rutelli said archaeologists were "reasonably certain" the cave is, indeed, the Lupercal. Lupa is Roman for "wolf."
The cave was found about 15' underground, and has only been explored by technological means due to fears of collapse. After a near $20 million restoration, parts of the famous Hill will re-open to the public in February. I do not know if it will coincide with the famous festival, nor what fanfare will accompany the event.
