For nearly three decades now, the faithful in Bosnia-Hercegovina have claimed the Virgin Mary appears daily in Medjugorje; six children first saw the apparition in 1981. The Vatican is now investigating these claims.
The Virgin Mary is said to appear in a gray dress and veil, and sometimes adorned in gold, crowned with stars. She is said to float on a cloud and repeat the same phrase each appearance, always in Croatian: "I've come because there are many true believers here. I wish to be with you to convert and reconcile the whole world."
Many skeptics warn against believing such claims, but some 30 million pilgrims are said to have visited the small town since the vision was first reported.
