A churchgoer at the First Baptist Church in Maryville, IL walked down the aisle, exchanged words with Pastor Fred Winters, then produced a gun and shot him once in the chest. When the gun jammed, the man pulled out a knife. Two in the attending congregation tried to subdue him and suffered minor wounds. The gunman then began stabbing himself.
The gunman was arrested and is being treated for his wounds. Pastor Fred Winters later died from his wounds at a local hospital.
