Chinese Claim Tibetan Monk "Came Back to Life"

A 24-year old Tibetan monk who set himself ablaze in protest of the Dalai Lama's exile during a prayer festival in China last week "...came back to life after 12 hours' treatment [and] is out of danger now," according to a Chinese physician claiming to have treated the man.

Further, Chinese sources assured news agencies that another monk had confessed to spreading "made up" rumors that police had shot the student to "create greater disturbances so as to attract the attention from overseas."

A spokesperson for the Free Tibet Campaign cited unidentified sources as having said the man exited a monastery and set himself ablaze. Shortly afterward, shots were heard. The student was hurried into a van and whisked away. He has not been seen since.

The details of his miraculous recovery were told to a Xinhua news agency by Shen Yongcai, a physician at the Aba hospital, who said he treated the 24-year old for burns over half his body.
